NBC 10 News:
"A student died when a school bus and a dump truck collided Thursday morning leaving multiple other New Jersey elementary school students injured, according to Burlington County authorities.
The violent crash happened at Bordentown-Chesterfield Road (County Route 528) and Old York Road in Chesterfield, N.J. a little before 8:20 a.m., according to authorities.
The student killed in the wreck is the daughter of a New Jersey State Trooper, police on the scene said.
Some of the other kids on the bus, which was headed to Chesterfield Township Elementary School, were hurt but dispatchers didn’t know how many or the extent of their injuries.
At least three medical helicopters were called to the scene. Children were being rushed to area hospitals for treatment including Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton.
The parents of injured students were notified that their children were involved in the wreck, according to the Chesterfield Township School District.
Kids that weren't taken to the hospital were picked up by their parents on the scene, school officials said.
The cause of the crash wasn’t immediately known. After the crash the school bus rested against a traffic light pole having appeared to have spun around while the dump truck's tires tore apart and dug into the grass before fully stopping on a lawn behind the bus.
Roads around the crash scene were closed throughout the morning as authorities investigated.
Gov. Chris Christie released the following statement:
"We are awaiting further details, but we are deeply concerned for the students on the bus and their families and can only imagine what they’ve been dealing with in the immediate aftermath of the crash. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved, especially those who have been injured."
