CHESTERFIELD, NJ -
Members of the Chesterfield Township Environmental Commission took steps to protect trees from a local beaver.
This past Tuesday, Commission members put wire fencing around many trees on Recklesstown Way, to prevent the beaver from taking the trees to store in what they call a food ‘cache’ for the winter. The Commission ordered additional fencing that will be fitted around any of the trees in the area for installation next Saturday.
Mayor Jeremy Liedtka was in communication with the Commission throughout this process and supported the commission’s efforts.
A word of warning, beavers are protected under a New Jersey Statute and interference with them or their habitats is illegal.
